Dear Parents,
It’s time to think about registration for our Ohtani Basketball 2012-2013 season!
The Berkeley Ohtani Basketball program is sponsored by the Berkeley Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple. We are a community organization for youth and their families. Our goal is to teach values, which include the importance of family, education and good moral character. The organization not only provides a supportive place for players to develop individual skills, but promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork and fair play.
Our organization follows the principles of Positive Coaching, and we expect players and parents to follow the code of ethics which is outlined during the online registration process.
Ohtani basketball is completely comprised of volunteers from board members, to team managers and coaches. For our organization to be successful and to keep our fees as low as possible, we ask for assistance from all of our players and parents. We do require a commitment of time, effort and talent from each family. In doing so, we hope that you will learn more about our organization and build lasting friendships with other families involved in our program. Details of these requests and commitments are outlined on the following page.
We understand that players enjoy being on the same team as their friends, and we make every effort to accommodate this. However, we cannot guarantee their team placement. Many different factors are taken into consideration in determining team rosters with the final rosters being approved by the board at the beginning of the season. If you have any special concerns, please contact the registrar. Please note that acceptance into the program will be dependent on space available.
Practices usually take place on Friday evenings in Berkeley and/or Oakland. They run from late September through end of March. Our regular league games run from December through February. Games usually take place on Saturday evenings and/or Sunday afternoons in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Most teams will play two tournaments in the post season.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. Our wonderful organization would not be here without your support, and we hope to see you in the fall for an exciting season of Ohtani basketball!

We require a postdated check of $150 which will only be deposited if you fail to fulfill any or all of these requirements.
